ROS Fest 2018, Robotic Culture Festival, aims to be a marathon of robotics, cinema and communication. An invitation to reflect and learn about the relationship between artificial intelligence with society and cinema.

In that sense, we have organized a series of debates with great professionals within the fields of engineering, communication and cinema.

‘Robots and fiction’

A debate that will revolve around the role of robots in cinema. Its evolution, influence and the coexistence between both. We will also talk about the short film format in science fiction.

The discussion will take place on Friday, September 14 at 7:00 p.m. Those responsible for reviewing cinema, robots and the boom experienced by this genre will be:

Javier Ordóñez: Professor of History of Science at the Autonomous University of Madrid.

Guadalupe Arensburg: Head of Short Films Acquisitions Department at Movistar +.

Jordi Sánchez Navarro: Director of Information and Communication Sciences Studies at the Open University of Catalonia (UOC) and Programmer of the animation section of the Sitges Film Festival. He is also Deputy Director of the International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia.

The table will be moderated by Carolina Moreno Castro, Professor of Journalism at the University of Valencia. During the last decade she has directed the Scienceflows research team.

‘From engineering to cinema’ (English)

A debate moderated by Natalia Pérez Galdós in which she will discuss how advances in engineering are changing film formats.

Natalia Pérez Galdós is a journalist. She worked for 10 years at the TV channel CANAL + SPAIN [Film Dep.]. Film expert and collaborator as a scriptwriter, multimedia content, content designer and creative writer.

The discussion will take place on Saturday, September 15 at 11:30 h. and three important professionals in the field will intervene:

Neal Hartman: He works on the Atlas experiment and is the Director of the CineGlobe Festival held at CERN.

Concha Monje: Researcher in control architectures of humanoid robots in the RoboticsLab at UC3M. She is an electronic engineer and professor at the Carlos III University of Madrid and a film consultant in films such as ‘Autómata’.

Jon Ander Gómez: He works in the Department of Computational Systems and Computing, Universitat Politècnica de València. Jon researches Data Mining, Algorithms and Artificial Intelligence.

‘New Media Art’

The last of the debates aims to reflect on how new technologies have influenced art and cinema. A new form of audiovisual creation that encompasses different artistic manifestations: artificial intelligence, video art, multimedia installations, digital photomontage, virtual reality, etc.

A discussion that will take place on Saturday, September 15 at 7:00 p.m. with the following participants:

Ricardo Iglesias: Philosopher and Doctor in art territory and media culture from the University of Barcelona where he currently teaches audiovisual and interactive systems.

María José Martínez de Pisón: She has directed the Master’s Degree in Visual Arts and Multimedia at the UPV and is part of the Laboratorio de Luz  (Light Lab)in that university. She develops her work in the field of digital art.

Montxo Algora: Founder of ArtFutura since January 1990. He has directed all editions since its creation, with the participation of artists and thinkers vital for the development of digital culture.

The debate will be moderated by Lorena Sánchez, editor-in-chief of QUO  magazine and science journalist since 2000.

All the debates will take place in the Library at Las Naves, Innovation Centre.
